Help Any Cruisers in Belize

My in-laws are cruisers and their last known location was in Belize. We haven't heard anything from them via phone or email in over 3 weeks which is very unusual! We are getting very worried at this point. Any help will greatly be appreciated!

So who are they? What's the name of the boat? Where and when was the last known location?

Re: Help Any Cruisers in Belize

There are quite a few cruisers operating in Belize who are active on the forum. I delivered a sailboat o Placencia last Nov for day chartering.

Please help us to help you by providing all details that you have. Belize is a small country, but it still has lots of sailboats and water to cover.

I'm guessing from the user name the boat is named Will O' The Wisp and this is their family looking for them, but I don't really know.

What kind of boat? the length, color of the hull, post a picture, their approximate ages, number of persons on board, where is the last port of call, and what is their float plan.

Have you contact Belize Custom in Placencia or Belize City? If they have arrived, they must have registered and cleared in Custom. Not try to scare you, the night before we arrived Placencia, we were closer to Honduras than Belize. We kept radio silence and sailing without lights or navigation lights to avoid detection from the unfriendly kind.

Good luck.

We know they arrived in Belize, just not positive where in Belize via their last email.

They have a 1970 Banjer. They have had a lot of work done recently, so we're not sure of the color anymore. Here is the link to their sailing blog that has a picture of them as well.

Re: Help Any Cruisers in Belize

If they are in Belize (or thereabouts), why not call them up, email them, etc?

Maybe call the harbour master in their last port of call? They might help.

Re: Help Any Cruisers in Belize

They could very well be out on the reefs offshore from Belize or Mexico with no Internet access. Some of those areas are pretty remote. Three weeks is a long time, but when we went from Belize to Mexico we were usually the only boat in the anchorages at night, and we only saw a couple of other cruisers off in the distance. They could very well be in Mexico by now, but once they get there they should be able to find an Internet connection ashore.

That is a distinctive boat and someone is sure to have noticed them. Here's a link to the Banjer's club. And here's one to sailboat data.

Tomorrow, I will call my sailor friend in Placencia who has lived in Belize in the last 17 years. Let him keep a look out for the boat and will ask around.
