Single, Female, and living aboard?

Before I get berated as a dirty old man, I am genuinely curious.

Reading through some posts here old and new, it appears most are from fellow men. It would seem living aboard and cruising is either a dream shared by couples, or a single chap's fantasy.

I wonder then, are there many out there that are single and female?

Re: Single, Female, and living aboard?

Don't know about 'many' - most are couples or males, either cruising or living aboard, but there sure are single females living aboard and/or cruising the world.

Here in the Netherlands, I only know of 2 other single female liveaboards.
Wish there were more

Re: Single, Female, and living aboard?

There are, oddly enough, a number of single women living aboard. I know of at least 12 myself included, though there are probably hundreds. But we're more the needle in the haystack. Mself I have lived aboard 9 years now, though nearly three before that, with a partner.

There are a handful down here in the San Blas islands of Panama, ranging in age from 50ish to 75ish.

There is 1 in St Martin. Probably 4 or 5 in the Caribbean islands.

Certainly no young adventourous types.

Its weird, feminists demand equality but won't do many things without a man.

Re: Single, Female, and living aboard?

Hi deblen

An interesting group, but where I live there are no shortage of female sailors. It's those who choose to liveaboard or cruise that seem to be few and far between.

Re: Single, Female, and living aboard?

There's a subgroup for single females here on CF.

It wouldn't be there if there were next to none.

Actually, there are a fair number of women on CF whose avatar names do not make it clear that they are women. It's easy to understand: single women are sometimes prey to stalkers.

Somehow I can't find the groups
Do you have the link maybe, or know where to find the group?
TIA!

Re: Single, Female, and living aboard?

I lived full-time on the go for 10 years, boating and camping. I do a website for women who live and travel full-time in a camper or motorhome. Many are younger women who earn a living with a craft, writing, art, photography, consulting and so on. On land or sea the life of a single hander is different when one is on the go versus living at the dock and whether one is living on a pension or must earn as she goes. See SoloWomanRV
