Lagoon 380 waste tank

We are just sooo pleased with our new to us Lagoon 380s2. There are a few niggles though, especially the toilet waste tank situation. Ours is an owners version, with one head in each hull. The guest side has a waste holding tank, but the owners side does not. This means that we have to go over to the guest side to use the loo whenever we are not out to sea. We have fabricated a new stainless steel waste tank and will be installing it next month. Why on earth do Lagoon not fit a tank to both sides?

Re: Lagoon 380 waste tank

Save you money. Reduce sources of faults. Reduce weight. Reduce effort to repair and maintain. Reduce the number of through-hulls. Meet legal requirements. Reduce off shore empty out issues. Reduce pump out effort. Not predict that some people might be annoyed by having to make a choice. Etc. etc
Solution: I assume that this is a night time problem as both toilets might be readily accessible during the day albeit, you're still forced to remember which is which.
So, sleep in the guest bedroom or move the holding tank across to the ' master' head.
I guess boats are rarely fully resourced to cater for every individual's taste.

Re: Lagoon 380 waste tank

Yes I understand what you are saying - but why bother to fit a toilet at all on the owners side if there is no tank. The only time you can use it is out at sea and as you say - its just as easy to use the other one then. We don't want to sleep on the guest side of the boat - there would be no point buying an owners version otherwise. As I say, I have fabricated a new tank and will plumb it in next month - I just wanted to hear other opinions on the subject.

How old is your boat? Is there a macerator on the owners side?

Why stainless? Why metal at all? Waste is the last thing I'd want a metal tank for.

Other than my unsolicited advice on materials, I can't imagine why they'd build one side without a holding tank?

Had a friend put a bladder holding tank in his Lagoon 410. Google Guiding Light catamaran and you will find his charter business and ask him how its going.

Re: Lagoon 380 waste tank

The reason we went for stainless steel is that there is very little space for the tank. To maximize the space, the tank is an odd shape, giving me 40 litres capacity. As I own a fabrication shop and have lots of stainless offcuts lying about, it made sense to do it this way !!

the owners side tank is an optional extra at ordering stage. We ordered without and worked fine for us using the port dunny in marinas.
