Who is cruising?

Never did a poll before, hope this works.

Who is cruising?
1. We are full time live aboard, actively moving the boat.
2. We spend at least 6 months a year living aboard and moving the boat.
3. We spend between 2 and 6 months a year living aboard and actively moving the boat.
4. None of the above.

The question came up because of other threads that gave me the sense I really don’t know how many folks spend how much time actively cruising.

Does not work as a poll! It is just a post.

Re: Who is cruising?

Nice one Howard. I’ll be interested to see the responses. Given what the land home poll is showing, I expect to see the last two options score the highest here.

now refitting...not in usa or alleged home port therefore still cruising, as cruising is repairing boat in exotic locations.

Re: Who is cruising?

I answered as 2-6 months living aboard and actively cruising. Although we lived aboard for 3 years actively moving the boat we are now taking time off due to family and surgery issues we will be back to cruising soon but probably will be on and off the boat for a while. Things change but it is still great to be on the water and still great to drop anchor and have coffee in the cockpit as the sun comes up.

Re: Who is cruising?

Have lived aboard a bit longer than actually cruising full time. Although we cruised for a year '86-'87, we were only occasional coastal cruisers plus sailing on SF Bay most weekends, due to employment considerations.

We left the second time, in March of '89 which gives us about 30 yrs of full time cruising, but with a total of 14 months out, for my bilateral total knee replacement surgery, and then then revision thereof.

so, if you include that first year, and the combined coastal cruising, plus the trip from SF to HI and back in the 30 footer, it's darn close to a full 30 yrs.

It is not without its consequences, it has left us pretty detached from land based lives and customs.

Ann

Re: Who is cruising?

The poll results so far are different than what I expected. I know many more seasonal cruisers than full timers (not counting non-cruising liveaboards).

Ive lived aboard full time, cruised full time (no land base), but for the most part been a seasonal cruiser.

Me too. I predicted we’d see far more choosing the last two options. But the total numbers are very low compared to current numbers of users on CF. The system says: 241 members and 2,761 guests currently online. But only 34 people have voted at all.

Maybe a self-selected crowd? If you’re not cruising then maybe you won’t even look at a poll titled Who is cruising?

Never take the results of a voluntary poll too seriously

Re: Who is cruising?

Yes, very low participation. Only 427 views, one tenth the view of Mikes poll on who retains a land home. There 34 say they have given up their land home to go cruising while here only 24 identify as being out 6 months or more a year.

Guess I should not go into writing advertising jingles.
