Pacific Northwest Consignment Stores

Just looking around within 100 mile radius (we're on the US/CA border) and I see exactly NONE! How is this possible? I'm in one of the premier sailing areas of the world and can't find a used boat part store. I'm almost tempted to think that Google is broken.... we're going to Seattle for a boat show this weekend and I thought for sure that there would be several stores to visit.

Guidance please.

One of the best was Pacific Marine Exchange in Bellingham. It closed down a year or two ago. It's a shame. We both sold and bought lots of stuff there.

Longship Marine in Poulsbo - hope that's not too far away. From Seattle take the ferry to Winslow and then it is about a 30 minute drive (or an hour if the traffic on Bainbridge Island sucks). Then heading back N take the ferry from Port Townsend across. PT is great!
Really useful place, Aaron the owner is knowledgeable and helpful.

Funny, he doesn't put his hours on the web site, but there is a phone number there.

Click over to the Good Old Boat website for a listing of marine consignment stores. There may be one or more closer to you than you think.

FWIW...

Not sure anymore. There used to be couple in Seattle and one in Bellingham. There's a small one near Laconner Marina. New and used stuff. I suspect the price of real estate has made it not possible anymore.

Re: Pacific Northwest Consignment Stores

Sadly the great consignment, & used gear shop in Port Townsend closed a few years back. Though if you look in 48 North, Northwest Yachting/Northwesting, & any of the other free periodicals in the region, you'll see the ads for such shops. I can't recall what the local magazines are in BC. Though most of them are also available online, gratis.

You might try contacting a few points of interest in the local sailing culture/mafia for tips on this also. Like the Northwest Maritime Center in PT for example. http://nwmaritime.org/

Re: Pacific Northwest Consignment Stores

I was referring to the one which used to be in the marina parking lot, owned & run by Bob. Though it's good to know of another one there. It's tough to own boats without them.

yeah Pirate Bob's was an old school nautical junk shop. The new place isn't nearly so useful or um...colorful.

Re: Pacific Northwest Consignment Stores

What sort of stuff are you looking for?

I have never been there, but if you're looking for bigger things (winches, cleats, etc) there's a sailboat wrecking yard in Lynden (30 miles north of Bellingham):

Good to know because the big consignment store that previously operated in Sidney closed last year. The one in Steveston closed about 6 years ago. They seem to be disappearing. Realestate rental is getting too expensive for businesses that require a lot of room. We even lost West Marine in Canada.

Pacific Marine Expo - Thurs, Fri and Sat. Someone here at the dock is going and recommended we register. You need a badge to get in. I guess it's for the industry.
