Rubber Seals on portlight

Hi Folks,
I am total saliboat newbie so this maybe obvious to many but I recently bought a 26' Columbia Mk II. It is in pretty good shape the but rubber in the portlights was coming out. They weren't leaking (I soon found out why) but looked hideous.
I removed the plexiglas window and started scraping out the years of collected sealer, sikaflex, window goo and want to reinstall the window. I can't figure out how the rubber gasket is suppose to be installed. It seems to just sit in the groove of the portlight frame held in my window goo, at least that is how the other side is.
Does someone know the proper way to replace this seal?

Re: Rubber Seals on portlight

If it's a square rubber material, 1/4"-5/16" and hollow, just scrape it out of the groove. When you put in new, cut the ends at a 45deg angle and put the splice at the top. I use any soft sealant/glue I have at the time.
