French Polynesia Bound? Updated Long Stay Visa Info, Marquesas Food Costs, etc.
We recently updated and/or added a few documents to our website that might be helpful to folks headed to FP this season.
1. Updated Document on "Obtaining a Long Stay Visa for French Polynesia". Rules changed in Jan 2016. Funneling thru Panama? Thats one of the best places to get your Long Stay Visa at the French Consulate. We have heard 3 weeks or less from start to finish.
2. A year long accumalation of prices and types of items you can find in the stores in the Marquesas. This includes fuel(iDiesel, Gas, Butane) prices. Might help you with provisioning in Panama.
3. Linda wrote an article on Ciguereta in French Polynesia and assume it would apply to the Caribe as well.
4. A trick we have used for decades to keep gooseneck barnacles off the topsides while underway. Don't laugh it works and you can tell who arrived that used this trick or not.
5. What weather information we found helpful during the past 14 months in FP
The above docs can be found on our website by clicking the tab "Other Good Stuff"
Be sure to grab the most recent copy of the Marquesas & Tuamotu guides from the Soggy Paws website. One of the most widely used guides and best of all it's free!
Safe sailing!!

What a great website. Anyone venturing out should thoroughly go through all the tips and ideas.
Great changes in the Marquesas since we were there. Highly reccomend a long stay visa as you can stay and enjoy the Marquesas and Tuamotus without having to hurry on to Papeete to take care of paper work. To say the least, Papeete was not our favorite place to hang out in FP.

Re: French Polynesia Bound? Updated Long Stay Visa Info, Marquesas Food Costs, etc.
Chuck and Linda,
It was with great interest I read your anti-gooseneck-barnacles tip. Super that it worked so well. Also interesting that they come off easily, if you catch them within 24 hrs. or so. We have a couple of plastic putty knives that would do the job, but any expired credit card would, too, for the ones out of reach of the barnacle line.
Greetings from I-2.
Ann

Hi Ann & Jim
We also used a plastic scraper and a old CC that work well.
All the best C&L

Re: French Polynesia Bound? Updated Long Stay Visa Info, Marquesas Food Costs, etc.
We have recently updated our write up on how to obtain a long stay visa for French Polynesia.
The biggest change has been the elimination of the need to post a bond when you arrive with a long stay visa. This makes things much easier and cheaper.
Please see "Other Good Stuff" tab on our website(jacarandajourney.com) for Version 13 of the document
If you notice any updates needed in the document please drop us an email.
Safe sailing
