Copying a Navionics MSD card 8 gig, to a larger size MSD card? Is this doable?

I have a Raymarine Axiom 9, with a Navionics MSD chip which I recently updated for the first time. I saw that I only have about 700 megabytes left and was wondering if other people have successfully copied or mirrored the Navionics card onto a larger say 16 or 32 gig MSD card?

Soon as you hit the copy command the original card becomes unusable. And it does not copy.

Is this the voice of experience talking Outlaw? Pricey experiment perhaps?

Not really true. I've done a DD of my card a few times.

The protection is in the card serial number. You'd need a card in which you could edit the CID to mirror that of the original. Think of it like spoofing a MAC address. CIDs are usually locked though. Hence the secure part of 'secure digital'. You can buy cards that aren't, but you have to specifically look for them, and even then you need special hardware or software to write the CID.

Old Samsung Evo cards used to be able to be hacked to change the CID, but these ones went out of production a few years ago.

All in all, it's more effort than it's worth, and if you already have a Navionics card, new ones are half price anyway.

Thanks, Mike. I have a friend who could probably help me to do all this, but I was just sort of planning ahead and it sounds like when my map subscription aspires I will just go ahead and turn in my old card for a bigger one.
