Marinas with yard services near Venice

Our new boat is currently in Lignano Sabbiadora to the east of Venice. The Marina Punta Faro is nice and has a decent range of services, but the travel costs each time I go out are mounting up - mostly the car hire needed to get there. I'm also finding the services there a little disjointed - dealing with the marina for berthing, another company for haul in/out and antifouling, and then separately with any mechanics or other specialists.

We are aiming to start cruising Italy, Croatia, Greece and onwarda from July and have a fair bit to organise so I'm expecting to be out quite regularly between now and then. I'd ideally like to find somewhere with easier transport to the (or a) airport, and where the services are a little more connected so we're dealing with less people.

We need to lift out for a bottom paint, service or replacement of a seized seacock, and a thorough checking of all the other seacocks. Ideally we'd also like to get checks of the rigging and gas installation - all other survey recommendations we can handle ourselves.

Am currently looking at Marina Vento di Venezia on Certosa in Venice. It ticks a lot of boxes in that it is an easy move from where the boat currently is, is very easy to get to from Venice airport (can get the Alilaguna direct from airport to Certosa), my flights to Venice are pretty cheap, it has a yard, and there's plenty to do nearby.

Any drawbacks to Certosa, or alternative suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Marinas with yard services near Venice

Hiya,

Havent got there yet, as we are leaving Marina Frapa Nr Split / Croatia in two weeks time, and moving our Beneateu 393 to Marina San Rocco near Trieste.

Reason for going to this Marina, Its six hours drive from where I live in Germany, I can get an Overnight Sleeper from Munich if I dont take the car, Airport close by also. Seems to be a excellent selection of shops close by, and a number of Boat Yards.

Certosa is a lovely marina. Whats more it has a hotel on the island where you could stay while your boat is out the water. I have no experience with the yard but its certainly a big facility and looks professional from the outside

Of course there are many places in Croatia that can do the work too.

Have you considered having anti-foul wrap instead of paint. Its expensive but lasts 5 years. THere is an agent in Croatia who does this. Have a look at https://renolit-maritime.com/

I’m in a similar situation, where did you decide to go and how did it work out?

Re: Marinas with yard services near Venice

Hi,

I kept my boat for many years in Veneto region and I got to know and visit many marinas and yards in that area.
La Certosa is a good marina, but you have to take a ferry from Venice with limited off-season schedule.
The most convenient marina in Venice is Marina S.Elena, but service is so so. It is a 15 minute walk from Venice main train station, which is very well connected (high speed trains, airport, etc).
A good option is Marina Hannibal in Monfalcone. There are other marinas in Monfalcones as well with good maintenance.
You can also look at Darsena dell'orologio or Marina4 in Caorle. They both run their own yards as well. The town is really nice. It is a 30 minute ride to the train station (taxi or public bus available).
The area around Chioggia is also popular for boating and has many marinas and yards.
I'd recommend to spend a couple of days to visit these places and talk to the marinas.

P.S. most harbors have limited draft, so make sure your boat will not have problems with that

Re: Marinas with yard services near Venice

We stayed in Certosa for a few months while getting the boat ready, and on the whole had no trouble getting anything shipped there.

It's a lovely marina to stay in - away from the busy streets of Venice but only 10 mins on the water bus to Piazza San Marco, or could dinghy over for shopping trips.

We did haul out for anti fouling which was pretty expensive (maybe twice what we'd have expected), but left everything else until we got to Almerimar a few months later.
