Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
This happened 3 days ago near Corpus Christi. They say there were 11' waves. The starboard ama looks flooded. That mainsail is really dirty. It makes me wonder about the condition of the boat.

Novice here.. So.. are those bad waves? I know they said 11'.. but it looks like just swells... I thought a multihull could take that?

OMG!!! I'm so glad you said that!! This was the first thing I thought of.. but, I didn't want to say anything since I'm just learning... I didn't want to sound stupid.. But, watching the video.. it looks like having the sail up, is making the boat heel to the Starboard side...

Re: Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
This was taken Friday, but the time is not specified. Thursday night a vicious cold font blew through. It did severe damage in our marina. It was blowing 35 G 45 for a good 12 hours+. Probably more offshore. If he was out in that, I know why he got in trouble.

Re: Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
For you Newbies:
The first 3 Condor 40s were designed and built to compete in the OSTAR race which is the Original Single handed Trans Atlantic Race. The rest were more of a cruiser set up. They are extremely fast and capable ocean cruisers. This one looks like water is getting in the starboard ama which are normally sealed up pretty tight. No prop shafts or thru hulls lead me to believe there is something unusual happening. Maybe he hit something or a wave compromised a hatch. And yes, 11' waves are good ones!

Re: Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
Looks like Thursday waves were 15 feet on a 7 second period for a good 12 hours or more. No thanks.

Re: Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
I hope it's not the one that's for sale. That would seem mighty suspicious

That one sold in September 2013 but I do think it is that boat.

Re: Sailor Rescued from Condor Trimaran in Texas
Two thoughts... It was blowing gale force. No one should be out there on purpose. We knew the front was coming days before it hit. Second is that 11' seas in the gulf are a short chop with square waves; brutal.
If that boat wasn't sound (the main leads me to believe it wasn't) then the stresses on the hull from the square waves could have caused a breach of some type.
My guess, and only a guess, is that he couldn't put the boat into the wind in order to drop the main.

Surely just goes to prove multihulls are unsafe.....
