Labor Day Texas Cruiser Meetup

My boat Frimi, although the only one to show for the cruisers meetup in Galveston Bay, had a blast. More details here:

Galveston Bay Cruise on Frimi May 2014

So I want to repeat for Labor Day weekend when in Central Texas its hot, winds are light to non existent, and its hot, there may be mosquitoes, if there has been rain, and its hot.

So I have thought about the following trips:

1. Brownsville to Port Mansfield
2. Padre Island Yacht club to Aransas Pass to Rock Port
3. Rockport to Port O Connor to Palacios
4. Bolivar to Kemah to Bay Town
5. Sabine Pass to Orange

Criteria for selection:
1. ease of access to launch and retrieval
2. Downwind or broad reach sailing
3. easy access to Ice, beer, etc

I've also thought about the inland lakes like Sabine and Texhoma, but I feel they'd have the same problems as Travis near Austin, ie no wind, heat and mosquitos. I hoping the sea breeze is still blowing in the other places, but my knowledge is sparse since I was last on the coast in August when a child and not interested in sailing. Local knowledge would help.

Anyone want to suggest which of these would be the most fun?

I think the Galveston trip was so much fun for me personally since there was very little "roughing" it. We slept on the boat every night, but dined out each evening. Plus I had an outstanding crew!

I've been in the Port Aransas - Rockport area for a month getting the new to me boat surveyed, bought, and fixed. I told one of the locals they should give up on weather forecasts, just put a sign at the city limits reading:
"Welcome to Port Aransas. SE 15 - 25."

After careful thought, based on the fact that I know the area, I've decided to have this Texas Cruiser's meetup start on Padre Island.

Suppose I launch at
13428 S Padre Island Dr

Corpus Christi, TX 78418

Sleep somewhere around 27.622916,-97.236042 friday night.
Google shows water, but theres no depths on the chart, need to check fishing maps (something to do)
Sail to Port Aransas Marina On Saturday
Sail to Rockport on Sunday
Pull out Monday and drive home

I'm sailing a west wight Potter, but even with this slow boat, these are likely to be relatively short sails leaving plenty of time for beer, chips and conversation and swimming.

We had a great time in Galveston so if anyone would like to join us or just chime in with advice they'd be welcome.

Re: Labor Day Texas Cruiser Meetup

Got a plan now. We would welcome another boat along, since Frimi carries four comfortably and I have 10 signed up

Here is a tour of the Marinas in east Corpus Christi bay and Aransas Bay, along with my plan:

Re: Labor Day Texas Cruiser Meetup

We had a meet up this weekend, five possible crew member's showed. We had a nice time discussing the trip.

So I am most definitely doing this. You may monitor the two meet ups for updates or just find us at berth 1102 in the Port Aransas Marina Saturday August 30.

Last chance to catch Frimi for Labor Day Corpus Christi Cruise - Austin Sailing Society (Austin, TX) - Meetup

Re: Labor Day Texas Cruiser Meetup

Well, I have four people signed up for my boat. Another guy with a precision 22 thinks its too far to sail from Palacios. So its going to be a small but happy party.

I did a little survey of the start, middle, and end of the trip here http://www.cactus.org/~tbodine/Sailing/CCPlan/

Which restaurant is better in your opinion near Marker 37 Marina , Port Aransas, and Rockport?

We'll see how the crew feels about the weather because its Hot in Texas

Anyone want to come by and see us, we'll be the faded blue 19 foot Potter near Marker 37 Friday night, Port Aranasas Marina Saturday, and Rockport City Marina Sunday.
