My
boat Frimi, although the only one to show for the cruisers meetup in Galveston Bay, had a blast. More details here:
Galveston Bay Cruise on Frimi May 2014
So I want to repeat for Labor Day weekend when in Central
Texas its hot, winds are light to non existent, and its hot, there may be mosquitoes, if there has been rain, and its hot.
So I have thought about the following trips:
1. Brownsville to Port Mansfield
2. Padre Island Yacht club to Aransas Pass to Rock Port
3. Rockport to Port O Connor to Palacios
4. Bolivar to
Kemah to Bay Town
5. Sabine Pass to Orange
Criteria for selection:
1. ease of access to launch and retrieval
2. Downwind or broad reach sailing
3. easy access to Ice,
beer, etc
I've also thought about the inland lakes like Sabine and Texhoma, but I feel they'd have the same problems as Travis near Austin, ie no
wind, heat and mosquitos. I hoping the sea breeze is still blowing in the other places, but my knowledge is sparse since I was last on the coast in August when a child and not interested in sailing. Local knowledge would help.
Anyone want to suggest which of these would be the most fun?
I think the Galveston trip was so much fun for me personally since there was very little "roughing" it. We slept on the
boat every night, but dined out each evening. Plus I had an outstanding crew!
