Lightbulb Bottom Paint - compatible to Trinidad Pro in Tahiti

Hi all,

In May I will need to haul out my 34 foot yacht in Tahiti to repaint the anti fouling. Currently I have "Trinidad Pro" paint on, but it is quite though to get it to Tahiti and I don't believe I will be able to buy it over there. Has someone an idea what I can get in Tahiti and if I can find something compatible so I will not have to sand off the old one?

Many Thanks,
Lasse

Lasse: Hi!

Petit Trinidad Pro is a hard antifouling paint, no? One that is usually only applied by boat yard workers (called "professionals" for some strange reason).

As long as the paint is in sound condition (not flaking, no bubbles), you should be able to sand it to get a clean surface and then apply almost any type of antifouling on top of the Trinidad Pro.

As Alan said Trinidad should be sandable and covered with other anti fouls without problem. If you are concerned then use a tie-coat primer over the trinidad and then apply what you want. Here's an example tie coat

Compatible paints are in the link below. Its Made in New Zealand...so there is a very high chance you will be able to get it or No.10 as we call it in Tahiti.
