Unusual trimaran

Came across this some time ago. It looks interesting.
What attracts me:
-very shallow draft (2.5 ft)
-can be beached anywhere (aluminum rails on the bottom)
-won't need haulouts ever (except emergency, I guess)
-has space
-already has not bad solar/battery setup

If to assume that amas are securely bolted to main hull, what is seaworthiness of such boat? Could it be used as blue water cruiser? If, let say, current rig would be replaced with more conventional rig?

Good questions! Not sure about reserve buoyancy. I'll wait and let the multi hull guys like stumble answer. Really enjoyed looking at the listing though. Thanks for posting it.

Re: Unusual trimaran

Main hull is long and sleek, so actually it should sail not bad IMHO. My only concern - how such boat would behave in bad conditions?

I expect that it would be a maintenance nightmare...

I'd expect it to be total DIY plus "improve and modify as you go". That more attracts me than scares. Best of all, it has space to store all tools and to have good workshop onboard.

My biggest question would be if it is in Indonesia. Why is the broker that pops up in florida half way arround the world sounds like another pop boats deal.

Assuming the listing is correct, the designer I should listed as Rod Davies (ex Olympic sailor, and AC designer/coach for Artemis). So I have some faith in the design, but that rig would need to go or at least seriously explained. Aluminium hulls in a tri this size are probably reasonable, but she still looks a good bit overweight.

All in all a pretty unique project, with a decent pedigree, and a seriously strange rig. If I was in the market I would be willing to take a look, but go in with a good bit of scepticism.

It's similar to my thinking. Yes, I would expect that rig to be replaced with more conventional rig (maybe even keep A-frame but still make it more conventional). Together with engineering cost that would be hefty markup to already not cheap price. Plus refitting that awful interior...But very interesting concept, I haven't seen anything like that.

This boat is more a motorsailor. The A frame crab claw rig does seem to match the overall design that fits with leisure island hopping. The sailing should be quite docile and safe as the sail can be reefed easily. The structure seems hefty enough. I would not make major changes.

That's all correct, the question is - what would it take to convert it to blue water cruiser. I think it could make nice "expedition" boat. I don't see many multihull boats in this price range which would fall in category "expedition boat", meaning possibility to carry some toys/equipment.

I think this boat was designed to do what it does where it does it . The main hull is quite fine and would ship a lot of water in a seaway and the outriggers have minimal flotation and would not be able to support a taller rig .
Cool boat though ,the rows of single bunks with curtains on each side are an interesting feature . But so many bunks with so little privacy and poor out side space .

Re: Unusual trimaran

Pic #7 looks like a warehouse full of transmissions (see bellhouse shape. ) Hydraulic power takeoff? Pretty imaginative vessel In that location perfect multi day snorkle and getaway trip for adventurous backpackers Now with airbnb and trip advisor an easy to run biz. Similar tours available all over Malaysia and Indonesia but usually big clumsy sailing X fish boats Any one who has actually sailed there and in Madagascar can verify how surprisingly good those rigs can haul . Blue water is between the islands in the right season .
