rudder referance unit on deck?

Hi all. Raymarine recommend fitting a rudder ref sensor as an option for the new EV pilots. I have a transom hung rudder so it would have to be on deck but I can't find any indication on whether this sensor is waterproof, don't think it is. Anyone done a similar install and found a way round it?
