Updated Davit Design for 550 Pound Dingy Lagoon 440

I was installing a new solar arch and decided to add new davits to the setup. The old davit support area was a perfect place to place the main load of the dingy (550 pounds) and the solar array. Took longer than I wanted but man - I have to say I love the setup. Tons of positives and only a few negatives. The dingy (for now) is a Bullfrog with a 30hp ETEC 2 Stroke.

Does it add a lot of weight ? Or did you drop weight

It is all aluminum so the weight - although more - isn't outrageous.

Love that setup. Want to do something similar one day, not so much for the weight, but you can have a longer dink than can fit between the hulls. The long arms let you lift from behind the hulls. Would love to get a light(er) weight alum rib, say 14+' that would better on long expeditions and in bigger chop than the topical 10-11' rib would handle.

The other thing I'd do on mine is but the hammock types seats that seawind or manta have on their davits - better on boats that can see forward from the aft cockpit.

Nice looking setup!

Why is that dinghy so heavy?

It is a composite dingy (pretty much plastic) instead of an inflatable. It has an aluminum bottom which is light but the sides are a little heavy. Plus I put a 30 HP engine on it... a Wet Sounds sound bar... Lithium Battery... Lumitec underwater lights.... lights under the bench seats. It all adds up. I have this one sold and will be getting a lighter one as it is just too difficult to get it on and off the beach if the tide changes.

If you still want some get up and go, Yamaha just came out with the F25G, @ 125lbs w/ EFI, looks like a sweet motor. Suzuki has been winning the medium sized dink motor game w/ their EFIs in the 9.9-20hp range. But Yamaha has them beat by 10 lbs for the 25.

Is it possible to see the dinghy mounted? What was the cost of the work and where did you have it fabricated? Cheers.

Love the setup - but I always wonder when I see these setups if there is a reason people don't take the solar rack another panel wider on each side? Doesn't see, like it would affect headroom getting on or off the boat, more shade, and add another 30% to the array? Just curious.

And another vote for pictures of the dinghy mounted, please.

Beautiful job!

For one, it would be challenging to fish with something overhead.

I'll add a photo from the back when I can.... I'm always in the dingy taking photos so hard to have photos of the dingy up....!

The dingy is WAY high in the air.... sure makes me feel more confident about it's position.
