Lagoon 440 Solar Question

Need some help. Can someone tell me the best configuration for solar panels on the factory top over the cockpit? Would like to maximize the space. Live in Texas and boat is on the East coast. Thanks in advance.

Re: Lagoon 440 Solar Question

I have just installed 4ea 260w over a frame attached to the aft of the upper deck and supported back to the aft main deck. I series each side then parallel to the charge controller. This way if either side is in the shade I will still get full output from the other side.Over the cockpit you would have to use a flexible configuration if attached to the bimini.

Re: Lagoon 440 Solar Question

If you can stomach the extra cost mount the solar on the back over the davits or on its own rail.

Putting it on the cabin top will spend a lot of the time in shade or partial shade. Solar hates this, particulalry partial shade that moves.

We have 4 x 140w panels on a frame on the back, but would like more. When they die will upgrade to 4 x 185w or 200w panels.

Get a good MPPT controller, Victron Blue Energy are good

Re: Lagoon 440 Solar Question

We didn't design ours but think they did a great job. Suggest you maximise the frame by building up off the over the davits as shown ..... keep it high enough that you can see under it / behind the boat when reversing. Good spot for a clothes line or storing a SUP underneath. Don't make frame too complicated or its hard to clean the stainless. Makes it easy to service /replace the panels if required. Only change we would make is to add a step on top to reach the sailbag without stepping on solar frame edge (what we do now).
