Looking for good sailboat broker Fort Pierce

We have been told that we must sell our boat thru a US Broker since we are Canadian. It’s a 43’ gulfstar centre cockpit sailboat that we have already imported into US. Currently on land in Fort Pierce. Can anyone recommend a good boat broker who specializes in sail?

It may be easier to use a broker but certainly not required.

I hope you didn't pay for that advice. I'll bet it came from a broker....

If the vessel is US flagged and located in the US, then it is more logical to sell her with a US broker.

You could use someone from anywhere, but more efficient to use a local and honest guy.

If you wish to move her to St Petersburg, I work with 2 guys who I consider honorable. Not familiar with anyone in Ft Pierce.

We were told thru forums that since we are not American, if we sell our boat ourselves in US territory, it would be deemed that we are working in US. Taking work away from US person. And that we could be denied acces into US for 10 yrs.

Man, like some petty little third-world tin-pot banana republic.

How embarrassing if true my apologies on behalf of the sensible majority of this we-can-do-better "great nation".

I used Kim Korman at Florida Coast Yacht Sales last year to market my Beneteau 400.

She is located in Harbortown Marina.

The reality is all you really need is access to Yachtworld however that involves a broker/agent.

She did an acceptable job. They are all well paid for their services

We purchased our yacht through John Barr with Massey Yachts. Massey's in St. Pete. John handles your neck of the woods. We were very happy with John.

We recently used Dennis Dodge at Advantage Yacht Sales to purchase our boat. He is retired Coast Guard, very honest and knows all the rules. Saved us a bunch on documentation. Highly recommend.

Re: Looking for good sailboat broker Fort Pierce

Interesting. I bought my boat in the US. It’s still state registered. As far as I know there is no restrictions on me selling it in the US.
Can’t see why a for sale by owner would be problem.

Still the only way to get the answer. Go ask at the border. They will tell you if it’s a problem.
There main concern when I bought the boat was how I was going to pay for it.
Bank wire transfer they were happy.
They didn’t like cash. I think they thought I might be money laundering.

Never listen to "hearsay"
Spend a little time and find out the facts.
More often than not the rules are very different to what you hear.

I believe that to be false. You can sell your own boat in the U.S. You just can't sell a boat for someone else. You can engage in contracts in the U.S., such as buying or selling a boat, as long as it's not a business.

If you want to use a broker, you probably have to use one licensed to sell boats in the U.S., as opposed to a Canadian one.
