Mooring or marina around Tahiti for long stay

Hi all,

I would like to get your recommendations.
We have to leave our boat in Tahiti and the drydocks are full and the marina is way to expansive during session. So two options.
1. mooring from September for 7-8 month
2. mooring till November 3 month marina and the rest back to the mooring (get a skipper)

What would be your recommendations for a strong Monohull or would you do it even different?

Many thanks

For that length I’d find a place to haul. Too much can go wrong unsupervised.

Did you try the marina on Moorea?

The marina in Moorea has no chance to haul to my knowledge.

I haven't hauled at the Raiatea Carenage but I have heard good things about it. Not particularly close to Papeete but might be an alternative to consider.

Fair winds and calm seas.

I would suggest that Raiatea/Tahaa is you best option for hauling or mooring.

You could look at Tahiti Nautic Centre, Taravao.

Re: Mooring or marina around Tahiti for long stay

All the haulout long stay yards in Raiatea have been booked out for months now. The in the water marina in Moorea has a long wait list for a slip.

One thought might be the yard in Apataki. But giving the timeframe might be full as well.

Your profile does not specify boat make as draft is critical in some yards.

Yes try the yard in Taravao.

The moorings off Taiana marina are first come first serve. maintenance of these moorings is in question.

Good Luck

If you leave it in the water would suggest hiring a boat watcher.

Re: Mooring or marina around Tahiti for long stay

most of our Tahiti experience was the leeward islands of Tahiti, Riatea , Taha'a, Bora Bora and Huahine. 4 different trips over many years .

We do see empty moorings at various harbors and anchorages and if things get desperate that might be a plan. Some vessels look permanently moored.

Utaroa and some of the other smaller marinas on Riatea.

Bora Bora......Bora Bora Yacht Club and Viatape town area and the lagoon away from the cruise ships.

Huahine....Fare

if leaving the vessel on a mooring, we would like some one to manage the vessel, every two weeks come and check the lines, security of the mooring, and the security of the boat, clean the vessel, running rigging coiled and secured, decks, cockpit, etc. every week or two weeks. sail covers and canvas as needed, every two weeks , and the hull monthly. Run the engine, charge the batteries, etc . Check the bilge and pumps, and thru hull fittings, etc. Open the vessel up, and get some fresh air flowing through. Clean down below, and check and wipe out any mold.

Would not want the vessel to look abandoned and neglected . Also, with some one on board doing those chores, there would be some visible activity.

We would want a fairly active mooring field, not some isolated area with few or no people.

Agree that on the hard would be the best plan, and hopefully that will work out for you.

Just our thoughts if it were our vessel . It does not take long for an unattended boat attract flying friends and plenty of the white stuff.
Ski BIRD ROCK .

Re: Mooring or marina around Tahiti for long stay

Thanks for all the help!
I have now with some luck got a slot in the marina Taina for 3,5 month during the dangerous session. And the for the rest I will leave the boat on a mooring.
Dose anybody has some experience with someone managing the boat (looking after). What cost to expect?

Find Adrian a boat mechanic living on a red black boat(named Attila) at Taina marina mooring, he will look after your boat.
