Tahiti Visa?

I have read and heard different things about cruising in Tahiti. As an American do I need a visa and do I have to arrange it ahead of time?

Any insight would be nice. I have read their site and it seems like i don't, but a Canadian suggested that I do. And it seems to possibly depend on which island I one arrives on

Yup that's another thing I read... the bond. Is it cash? And I think there were claims of trouble getting it back. But that would seem rare. (I hope)

We hired an agent and didn't have to list a bond. The agent can also arrange duty free fuel for you. No advanced notice needed for visas.
