Looking for Marina's accepting live aboards - From Maine to NY.

My wife and I are looking for a Marina that accepts live aboards in the New England region. We're looking to get a trawler between 32'-40'. We checked out DiMillos in Portland, Maine already. Looking for other options as well. We're located in New Hampshire and plan on spending a few winters on the boat, but eventually would like to travel south for the winter. Any good recommendations in the mean time?

It's apparently a short list: Constitution Marina, Boston. Badger I.Marina, Elliot ME (Portsmouth). Front Street Marine, Belfast, ME.

Would love to hear of more!

Also try Admiral Hill marina in Chelsea. I think they even sell those slips as well.

South Port Marina in South Portland would be near the top of my list.

Oh Darn! It seemed pretty nice too. Any word on Atlantis Marina? They don't have a number on their website! I have yet to check the one google shows.

If interested in NYC, many marinas on the NJ side of the Hudson allow living aboard. There are also moorings that could be had for cheaper, but they don't mix well with the winter.

Re: Looking for Marina's accepting live aboards - From Maine to NY.

I grew up in South Portland and would warn that it can be quite bumpy at Dimillos along with loads of nosey tourist types.(Bus-loads at a time due to the uniqueness of the place) I know folks that got seasick eating in their floating restaurant due to the motion of the yachts in the marina bouncing around so much that surround the restaurant. It is also located on the "working" waterfront which can be smelly and strange stuff floating around too ; They call South Portland the good side of the bridge for a reason. Much quieter and relaxing with nice neighborhoods versus a big city working area.

South-port marina is excellent and is located next to the amazing "Centerboard Yacht Club". My families old haunt and learned to sail there as well!

Casco Bay is a fantastic cruising ground and miss it terribly. So many places to tuck into and relax if it gets bumpy outside.

Hope this helps!

What marinas do you recommend in South Portland?

Re: Looking for Marina's accepting live aboards - From Maine to NY.

South Port Marina I know (at least as of 1-2 years ago) allows liveaboards and is a good location. Spring Point and Breakwater are very nice marinas, no clue about liveaboards. Sunset has had some bad reviews and is subject to wakes. Aspasia has a bad reputation. Again, not sure about liveaboards at either of those. I'd be curious about PYS on the Portland side; I haven't been to their "new" location (OK, it's not really new anymore) but it's much better protected than their old spot.
