Malaysia to Port Said Egypt - is it safe or should I go the long way around?

Hi All,

I've seen conflicting and somewhat out of date comments about taking the Red Sea/Suez route to the Med from SE Asia.

Does anyone have any recent experience of this passage? Some reports suggest the security problem has diminished in recent times?

I'd be also interested to hear if others have transported their yacht on a freighter or via a specialist ship through this area and what the cost was? It seems I can load in Phuket and offload in Port Said or Turkey.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated.
