Re: Use Start or House Battery to run Windlass?

Heres another thought. We have sets of batteries: the usual engine start plus domestic bank and also a bow battery (for bow thruster and windlass). This works in keeping Cable size/volt drop down BUT when we leave the boat for a long time and its not connected to shore power weve got more batteries to worry about. The domestic bank is looked after by the solar system and Ive taken to disconnecting the bow and engine start batteries. If the bow loads were served from the domestic bank wed not have a bow battery left unlooked after.
