Here We Go: Facebook to Beam Internet to Africa Via Satellites

Available 2nd half 2016. Services are expected to provide between 10 and 20 Mbps in the new generation Ku band satellites [at their fastest speed]. I suspect they will slice the bandwidth to make it more affordable and maintain the 1 to 2 Mbps but provide the service for nearly free.

Anything that ultimately drives the cost down would be welcome. Right now satellite internet on a boat is 100x more expensive than cellular internet.
