AIS causes GPS oddity.

I finally took OpenCPN on the water ... and everything worked as expected, except when I connect the AIS aerial.

I'm running with the Moitessier HAT and connecting the AIS antenna works fine and it receives an AIS broadcast, at which point plotter location returned to somewhere off the African coast (I'm assuming 0,0) .. curiously the location text in the bottom left of the window appears to remain correct.

The GPS status widget shows no satellites ... unplug the AIS receiver and a short while later it all looks good again.

AIS data looks good, I can see vessel names, MMSIs etc .. but the GPS data is screwed ... disconnect the AIS antenna and within seconds the GPS comes back ...

Does OpenCPN log this stuff? I tried doing a NMEA debug grab, but I don' think I succeeded in saving it ...no kbd to enter a file name.

SignalK can log, set it up in the sigK server/connections

Re: AIS causes GPS oddity.

OK, I shall have to wait until I am on the boat again .. or at least in range of some AIS, there is none around these parts.

Install the VDR plugin, it'll record all NMEA traffic to a file for you.

Re: AIS causes GPS oddity.

Check your wiring and connections. It sounds like a ground loop issue.
