Cartagena Stainless Work

We are considering cruising in the western Caribbean the next couple of years. Our aging CSY 44 desperately needs replacement of stanchions and other stainless deck work. Any recommendations/experience with stainless fabricators in Cartagena?

Re: Cartagena Stainless Work

We hauled out in Cartagena and had bottom job and replaced a leaking dripless shaft bearing. The problem is we can not remember the name of the yard but they built small power boats from scratch. That includes all the stainless around the rail.

There are 3 yards there as i remember it. One did not have a big enough lift and one was where cats went but most work was done in the water. The other one is where we went. The folks did know what they were doing .

sorry we can not remember the yard.

Re: Cartagena Stainless Work

Ask the folks at the Marina Manzanillo Club in Manga (adjacent to Cartagena). Some of the boats hauled there were having stainless work done. Another full-service marina is Todomar. Also there was a German fellow doing very good stainless work; he hung out at the Club Nautico when we were there; any of their staff can probably find him.
Enjoy Cartagena--it's my favorite cruising city ever (so far.....)

I too can't remember the German guy's name, but we had him make three SS exhaust elbows for us and they turned out as heavy duty highly polished pieces of jewelry - first class work for a total of $250 for all three.
