Water consumption of ventless clothes drying cycle

Original equipment for boat was a 30 year old Splendee washer dryer combo which had failed and I removed.

I have a choice between vented and ventless to replace, there appears to be a way to install a deck fitting nearby if I switched to vented.

The question is how much of the water used in a cycle is used to cool the condensing element during the drying cycle on the ventless unit?

Also, is there a significant difference in drying speed/capability of the vented vs ventless models?

Ventless/condensing dryers take much longer to dry when compared to a vented unit.

So if the option is available for the installation you would recommend going vented

Re: Water consumption of ventless clothes drying cycle

We have a ventless washer/drier at home. 5.2 hours to do a standard wash. Water consumption should be in specifications. Vented might mean another hole in the hull. Not a big deal We vent our ac through a hole in one of our plexiglass lights We have a round inspection hatch on the outside. Must remember to take it off when we use the ac.

We have a ventless Indesit on board. Washes fine, but doesnt dry well. More like cooks the clothes. Fortunately if the weather is good they dry as fast on the lifelines as the next load washes.

Re: Water consumption of ventless clothes drying cycle

I have used the ventless type on land and because of that experience I installed a vented Splendide 2100 in my boat 9 years ago. No comparison. I would never consider buying the ventless type. Poor drying capabilities and much higher water consumption. I like the washer dryer vented unit I have.

Re: Water consumption of ventless clothes drying cycle

I've used both a ventless and owned a vented (as a direct result of using a ventless).

Ventless dryers are good only if you want wet clothes - the one I used (and other owners have confirmed this), just don't work.

They are useful only in an apartment that prohibits washer/dryers and you are trying to evade being detected.

Put in a vented unit - there are several that work well - and enjoy fresh, dry clothes underway.

Any specific units you really like?

I keep looking for one that will run on 50hz and 60Hz but that does not appear to be likely.

Washer dryers and Microwaves seem to be the most trouble.

I've installed and repaired many; the vented Splendide 2100 xc is our current favorite; best pricing is from RV online suppliers but West Marine saves you the shipping!

Re: Water consumption of ventless clothes drying cycle

All motors except the new inverter driven motors require either 50 Hz or 60 Hz but not both. I ran my Splendido off an inverter. The inverter produced of coarse 60 Hz since that's what the boat was wired for.

When you are in shore and the boat is wired to 60 Hz the washer dryer will run fine if it is also 60 Hz unit. When I visited 50 Hz countries, I had an inexpensive very hi current automotive battery charger. I ran the charger during periods of heavy load such as the air-conditioning or the washer dryer that were both 60 Hz devices and would not run well on 50 Hz.

Everything ran off the inverter so everything was protected.

Be sure you don't leave the battery charger in all the time Because the cheap battery chargers are not designed to correctly for the Boat's heavy duty batteries.
