Caribbean Safety security and precautions

Hi, im getting closer to my florida to Columbian cruise and im being asked by friends about pirates, boat invasions and general security and safely.
Where and what should I avoid, as a new zealander im not allowed to purchase firearms in the US. So a good hickery baseball bat is probably all we'll have.
But do i really need we need that, really?
I hear the US border customs ppl patrol pretty well. But i did read a horrible story on cf about a group that were attacked in the middle of the night at anchor and im a little nervous about where to anchor in secluded bays.
On shore isn't the question, just when you're isolated at sea....
So, security alarms, senors and locks. What a good set up.
Does everyone have a gun from the states onboard?
Thanking you in advance,

Re: Caribbean Safety security and precautions

I recommend Noonsite.com —. See their Piracy and Security page. It has loads of reports by country as well as links to other sources like the Caribbean Safety and Security Net (https://www.safetyandsecuritynet.com/)

Cheers,
Joe
