Gulf coast Texas newbies

Other than a few day-sail charters when vacationing in St. John (and my four years on the U.S.S Kennedy) we have no experience. Those few trips drew us in though and we plan to do much more sailing eventually getting our own boat.
First things first though; we take our first sailing lessons this weekend. Both are signed up for ASA 101 at a school in Kemah, Texas. We are very excited.
This site was recommended to me this morning and I look forward to learning all I can from the experienced sailors here.

God Bless,

J&A

Check out GBCA if you haven't already. Great group and opportunities to learn and get out on the bay.

Welcome.

Have fun. Consider that sailing lessons also include SAILING.

Win win.

Re: Gulf coast Texas newbies

Welcome!
Started sailing this past summer. Still exploring places in and around the Galveston Bay area. So far, it has been a blast. We learn something new every time we set sail.

We joined a fractional yachting program to make sure that this was the activity for us before investing in a boat of our own. My wife is already sold, it would appear that boat ownership looks to be in our future...if and when the darned O&G business comes back.

Which fractional program did you go with? What did you like and dislike about it? Feel free to PM me if more appropriate for the response.

Also, open to hearing any other experiences/thoughts regarding fractional ownership programs in the Kemah.

Thanks to those that suggested the GBCA. Will be looking into it.

We are in Seabrook also. We joined a sailing club and it has been great. Bay Area Sailing is where we rent out boats. Nothing fancy (which due to our inexperience we like). Day charters are pretty cheap, and they give extra hours compared to some other places. We were members there for 3-4 years, and just recently bought our own boat!

Welcome! We have our boat in Kemah at Waterford Harbor. Great area to learn to sail in.
