Free: Boom bag / stackpack - pick up in Whitsundays, Australia

I have just installed my new sail cover and the old one is available free to anyone who can collect it in the Whitsundays in the next couple of weeks.

The cover would suit a foot size of up to 5.5 metres and is designed for lazyjacks. It fits in a boom track using 10mm bolt rope. The heavyweight burgundy material is still supple and should last a few more years. The condition is fine except:

• zip needs replacing
• tear in part of the boltrope section (does not affect use)
• minor chafe in one place

You will need to supply your own battens. I used electrical conduit.

If you can use this and are in the Whitsundays area, let me know and we can organise to meet. Please don't ask me to post it.

Steve, that's a great deal for somebody with sewing skills. That little tear, easy to fix. Also the application of a chafe patch is simple.

I hope you are able to find it a good home. For someone looking to learn how to do canvas work for themselves, it's a great opportunity, at the least, for making a pattern for a new one, or for learning to work with the fabric, even if you don't need it as a boom bag. We have re-cycled our own sunbrella mainsail covers into weather cloths and cushion covers, and can also work out ways to make shades out of them.

Me. With my rudimentary sewing skills it took many hours but the results are fine. I used the old one as a template, enlarging it slightly. The original one was made by John Sails in Airlie Beach - I have no idea on price beacuse it came with the boat, but I can say it is well made.

Ann, thanks for the comments. I agree it's too good for the dumpster. I thought of scavenging the material but it does not match the Aquamarine colour on the rest of the boat, and my queue of sewing projects is too long to think of other uses.

I'm hoping it finds a home with someone who really needs it.

I haven't had any nibbles on this yet. We won't be in the area much longer, and I don't want to take it back south with me.

If nobody is interested I will leave it at the dinghy dock near the Whitsunday Sailing Club and hope another cruiser finds a use before someone bins it.

Wow, cant believe that no one wants it. If it were down this way Id be at it in a shot.. Gumtree might be a goer, butvput a small price on it otherwise you will be beset with too many calls, and tirekickers.

A nice offer Ann, but we won't be that far down the coast by then.

Based on the enthusiastic comments I will reconsider storing it onboard for the way back so it does not get dumped.
