Customs & Immigration ??

Does anyone out there know if Neah Bay near the entry to the channel going to Seattle have customs and immigration offices. We want to stop there when we enter the USA again after 8 years in the SO. Pacific. It's a day closer to a warm shower and a dock to tie up to.

Gord May - Thanks for the reply but I found that website as well and didn't feel that it addressed my question. The list didn't even include Port Angeles and I'm sure you can check in there ????

Re: Customs & Immigration ??

Unless theres a shipping port for big ships it will not be a Port of Entry.

Gords web link shows all 5 Ports of Entry in Washington State.

Re: Customs & Immigration ??

I just called the Port Angeles Port of Entry number and the gentleman confirmed that they are a POE and is the first one as you enter the area. Neah is not a POE.
I don't know why the other link doesn't include this.

CBP Reporting Office
138 West First Street, Suite 204 , Port Angeles, WA 98362
Tel:+1 (360) 457-4311
Call in advance to receive instructions.

Good Luck

Re: Customs & Immigration ??

Neah Bay used to be a port of entry. It is not a port of entry any more.

There is a possibility to shunt the problem: If you'll sail from the SoPac and sail North via Hawaii you will not have touched a foreign shoal coming from HI (if you did check in there) and the US Imi will consider you on an domestic trip.
That's what I did. And was welcomed by the USCG in Neah Bay and just phoned the Homeland Sec in Blaine.
Cheers

Re: Customs & Immigration ??

Thanks for all your replies - It's all the info. I gathered as well but the idea of coming from Hawaii (USA state ) and thus not needing to check in with Customs & Immigration makes sense. Just not the case for us as our boat is coming from Japan and swinging much further north than Hawaii - thanks again to all of you that posted me with info. David-

Re: Customs & Immigration ??

There is a customs dock at the Port of Port Angeles marina called Boat Haven. It is on the left as you enter the breakwaters. There is a phone to call the USCBP office and they will send someone over asap. They are very busy in the summer with the Coho ferry from Victoria, BC so depending on when you arrive it may take a while for someone to get to you. If you call in advance ie. have cell service you can give them all your particulars and it certainly expedites the process.

I have done this many times since we travel often back and forth to BC (Canada.) You can PM me with any questions.
