OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

I have used without issues prior versions of OpenCPN in Windows 10 and prior Windows versions. I installed version 5 as a parallel installment to versions 4.8 and version 5 worked fine. Then I uninstalled version 4.8 and now version 5 crashes on opening. I get a window that says opencpn has stopped working and Windows needs to close it. Attachment shows window.

What to do??

Thanks.

Which version your are trying to run exactly?

There are ten-thousands of OCPN under W10 out there.

Version 5, like I said. Or more specifically version 5.0.0+9065270. Windows 10 Enterprise, 64 bit.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

You might try to start with an empty opencpn.ini file.
Rename the existing one - it should be found at ...\Program Data\Opencpn and start again.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

Thanks. I did what you said and I got the same result with the same "close window" show in my first post. I think now I will uninstall and reinstall and see what that does.

How do I change the setting for Acceleratd Graphics Open GL when the program will not open?

Try something like

Quote:
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe -no_opengl
or somthing similar, dependeing on your installation, from the dos prompt. One way is to press "run" and then enter the full path to opencpn.exe and add the "-no_opengl".

It seems your uninstaller does not work. Otherwise a new installed OpenCPN does not know about "C:\ProgramData\opencpn\MMSINAME.CSV".

First delete the whole folder C:\ProgramData\opencpn\
and then install again.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

Or edit the opencpn.ini file setting

OpenGL=0

A file not found error has nothing to do with OpenGL.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

That error message is quite frequent and is just a warning.

The rest of the references to the directories from the log look just right.

An error is called error because it is an error and not a warning.

Re: OpenCPN will not open in Windows 10 64 bit

Uninstall engines are often misleading as they do not completely remove everything. Also, uninstalls will not remove personal data files, or registry keys.

Many install/uninstall engines are poorly designed and will not rewrite registry keys if a key already exists. This is because most developers do not assume users will do parallel installations on a single computer since some of the libraries (dlls) and keys are shared...thus removing one instance corrupts the other.

So, it may not be sufficient to simply "uninstall" and delete folders, you may have to delete all references from the registry also. This can be a time consuming process and is not always guaranteed.

Your best bet might be to restore your computer from a previous backup and start from there. You did create a backup right?
