Hi - does anybody know where we might be able to download ECNs for The Mexican coast line from Puerto Vallate to San Carlos? With thanks

One option are the Blue Latitude raster charts from Fugawi for OpenCPN:

Does it make sense to go with Navionics? Looks like the Blue Latitude charts are no longer available and the Mexico link is for paper charts.

https://digaohm.semar.gob.mx/hidrogr...sNauticas.html The catalog linked from there says that all of them are available in both paper form and in the standard BSB format readable by OpenCPN. I just hope that they are not serious asking 467MXN (~USD25) for each...

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Yes the charts from the Mexican Navy are pricey but about the same price for paper charts sold elsewhere. What I suggest is buy the paper coastal charts from https://digaohm.semar.gob.mx/hidrografia.html and download cm93 charts (I found them on this forum but lost the link). The cm93 charts can then be corrected using GE2KAP. It is time consuming. I found that for West Coast of the Baja Peninsula they are mostly accurate. I have not checked the rest of the coast yet.

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Re-instating this thread with the same need. I followed above recommendations without any success.

iNavX can use Blue Latitude Press for $39.99, iSailor has Mexico charts for $6.99 (don't know the source). Is it possible to use either of them or some similar charts from the same sources with OpenCPN?

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Expect Blue Latitude added to the oeRNC sets - licensed raster charts for OpenCPN - soon.
oeRNC will be getting available end of next week or the week after.
We wall start with Explorer Charts and Imray.

Thanks Hubert. This is very good to know. Is there a page or any reference we can track? At a quick glance, I couldn't see anything on OpenCPN website.

o-charts.org - the chart outlet for and by OpenCPN...

For your side of the pond for example Canadian vector charts...

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

I have recently installed opencpn on my samsung s8 phone and installed the US west coast noaa charts and o-charts for the west coast of Mexico. I found this confusing but now they work.

To my surprise the o-charts show only ports which is not useful once the port is in the rear view mirror.

It appears there may be ways around this problem so I tried installing coastalPolygons v2.3.7 but my charts haven't changed. I have no idea what coastal polygons are.

How do I get 'base maps' of the Mexican coast? There are numerous different chart types s57, coastal polygons, bsb charts, s63, vector and raster charts, mb tiles ... This may be good but I haven't seen examples. It seems one could make a career of understanding what these are and how to install them like the coastal polygons.

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Too bad you did not research the excellent Blue Latitude charts (and guidebooks, the very best available for Mexico's west coast) - - they are clearly only coves/bays/harbours. So fortunate they are now available at O-charts! https://www.bluelatitudepress.com/index.html

Mexico's SEMAR sells their charts in both paper AND electronic (raster) format. And they DO issue new charts and updates each year (for example, the new detailed chart for the "islands" in Bahia de La Paz).

Unfortunately, they do not sell them in packages, but are priced individually. They are a little pricey.

Also difficult to get. There is a SEMAR office in Ensenada.

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

CM93 (2012) charts may be fairly "accurate" for the west coast of Baja, but only because there are only few good high-detail charts currently produced (by SEMAR) for this area.

CM93 2012 "pretty good" for:
Ensenada (marina details missing)
San Quintin
San Jose/Guerrero Negro
Turtle Bay (very good)
Mag Bay/San Carlos

Stops in between these lack detail (e.g., Colnett, Cedros, Asuncion, Abreojos) on CM93 2012 (and other charts). CM93 2012 also lacks detail for Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, though detailed charts ARE produced for these and are also on C-MAP and Navionics.

For Baja: Strongly suggest you prepare satellite-image "charts" using SAT2CHART and ArcGISetc for the west coast of Baja

sv-Pelagia

When I look at the Blue Latitude charts at o-charts website it shows a very large red square over a large area and then little squares over various small areas. I would assume this is showing a large map and then smaller maps. Is this not the case?

See what I mean at: o-charts section for Mexico

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

I haven't obtained the Blue Latitude charts from o-charts. (They used to be available crom now-defunct Fugawi, and are still available from INavx.)

The actual Blue Latitude charts are the small squares (harbour level).

Possibly o-charts give you the two low-detail overview charts too. Certainly little detail in these... CM93 2012 would be better as "base" charts.
