Passage planning: Sydney to New Zealand

Hello All,

We are in Sydney Australia and will be making passage bound for Whangerei, New Zealand. I expect to go over the top of the North Island and possibly check into Opua.

I know its a bit later than the best time to make this crossing but we have been delayed.

Any advice on when to leave and things to avoid would be appreciated.
