Re: ground transportation from DULUTH to SEATTLE ?

Go to a local boatyard or your own boatyard. Ask them about costs for dropping your mast and popping the boat on a truck. If it's a good yard, they should have a list of the truckers they know about. Then you have to do your own homework & research. You also have to figure out where to drop the boat in at the other end. Have any friends in Seattle?

How big is your boat?

Re: ground transportation from DULUTH to SEATTLE ?

thank you STU for your quick answer
I own a Maramu amel 46 ' and about 11 ' "high" (she carries 6.6 ' draft)
We leave in Panama and will be spending summer in north est america uyp to Montreal. So, we were thinking: why get all the way down to Panama to cross the canal and not truck the boat to the east coast? we would adore to sail there next summer. and it is far easier to sail south to panama than sailing north to BC!
A friend of us told us the more west you can go sailing is Duluth MI.
But we do not know anyone nor in MI nor in WA! We wouldn't like to go all the way at the western tip of the lakes and then have to get back!
That's why we need to figure out if doable and at which costs! also if no problem with FDA (for example) regarding parasite we might export to the pacific , etc.. well I'd say bureaucratic stuff!
may be do you know a boatyard or a truck company that I could call?
thanks again
bernard

While length and height are important the width is also.

You may want to check Active Captain and look into boatyards in Duluth and in Seattle. You can then contact them directly and start figuring costs. Ask them about truckers, too.

Nice plan, good thinking.

I will do so
Quebec to Duluth: how long do you think it could take (without stops that we would of course do!)?
