Re: New York City

The Hudson is deep and has a fast current, so anchoring is not feasible. Used to be an anchorage behind the Statue of Liberty, but I'm not sure if that is open. I think 9-11 saw the establishment of security zones around the statue and adjacent Ellis Isl.

Any guidebook or google search will tell you the prices of NYC marinas. They are few and expensive. Sadly, to keep the cost reasonable, you are going to have to anchor/moor in Port Washington NY or Atlantic Highlands NJ. They have reasonably priced mooring balls.

But, spend the money (and it is a lot--around $6 a foot) for a night at Liberty Landing in NJ just opposite the new World Trade Center and next to Ellis Island. The view of Manhattan is worth it--even at that stratospheric price. Once in a lifetime and all that. It really is awesome.

Re: New York City

Take a mooring at 79th street. That's your best bet.

Re: New York City

Free to anchor in a very snug spot called Caven Point back behind the statue. Nice and quiet. Narrow channel but marked by state markers. Will post some pics tomorrow.

Re: New York City

Another good place is Port Madison on Long Island. You get 2 free days on the moorings and lots of space to anchor. The Long Island Railroad is just up the street and drops you off at Penn Station in Manhattan.

Re: New York City

You can anchor outside of Atlantic highlands marina or see about a mooring , and the use the fast ferry to go to Manhattan .

Have you tried Active Captain? Or a guidebook?
