I live in Manhattan Midtown West and keep my boat at Manhasset Bay, traffic on LIE is brutal, sometimes I drive 25 miles from parking garage to marina over three hours. I am currently looking for mooring on Westchester or CT Long Island Sound.

Oh man... I don't miss the LIE one teeny bit...
And this coming from a SoCal boy where traffic is more prevalent than marijuana dispensaries ...

Welcome aboard, Natalie. I also live in Manhattan (UES) for part of the week and in East Hampton for the rest, year-round. I have several sailor friends who keep their boats on Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton and can safely say sailing out in the east end is far superior to sailing in the west end (of Long Island Sound). I say this from experience having kept a sailboat many years ago in Davenport Neck, near New Rochelle. For sure, the commuting from Manhattan to the east end is no match to the the shorter commute you now have to your boat, but arguably you will become a better, more experienced sailor, given the sailing conditions you will enjoy in the east end. Just thought I would offer you my 2 cents worth of advice. Feroz

Hey Feroz, I also have a friend at that particular marina he lives in Manhattan West Side, in fact I sailed out of that marina. Sailing is great over there. Two years ago I got a slip at that marina and last minute I changed my mind, it is a long drive. How do you get there by car or train?

Natalie, I used to drive out for the past 30-years, but since last fall, I have been taking the Hampton Jitney back and forth. Less wear and tear on the car and me!

I too lived in NYC, UES.
The long commute to get to a boat would be a drag, but the time spent on the boat could sure help one decompress.

Welcome aboard Natalie! Until Sandy we kept our boat in Staten Island, Great Kills...wonder if it is a shorter commute. Richmond County Yacht Club is filled with great folks and the costs are very reasonable...

Just seeing this thread now. Have you looked into City Island? I believe there are a number of choices there. Or else I'd look elsewhere on the northern coast of the Sound rather than LI. I'm in Northport on LI and the traffic is brutal going in and out of the city but I'd think going northeast might be better.
