Re: How to Move oeSenc Charts from Old to New Computer

- You copy the charts to the new computer
- You install the plugin on your new computer
- You generate the fingerprint for your new computer
- You go to the MY OESENC CHARTS section of your account on o-charts.org (https://o-charts.org/shop/index.php?...oller=occharts)
- You register your new system
- You claim the backup license for this new system
- You configure the license on the new computer

There is also a manual with the above in detail: https://manuals.o-charts.org/oesenc_en_US.html

Thanks nohal
Where do I claim the backup license for the new system?
Is it possible to release the license from the old computer?
(already installed on two computers and want to remove from one of theese)

As far as I know you can't "release" the license as it is bound to the hardware, offline, not checked against an online service.
The limit of the installations is imposed by the chart publishers, not o-charts.org, so it is not simple to increase it simply because you bought another new machine...

Some small corrections: different system --> different individual chart set

It is unreasonable from the chart publisher not to allow releasing of license. Technically it could easily be checked by just having the o-charts plug in check on inet connection and then act. That should be safe enough for any publisher!
More revenue is lost due to security paranoia - reasonable pricing and ease of access are triumph

oeSENC must not rely on Internet connection in any way for it's normal operation as there simply is no Internet at sea. There is another solution being worked on instead as far as I know.

When we discussed how to handle all the restriction we nailed down three premises:
1 - users are not always online and don't have to be
2 - we will not use any "oeSENC virus" on user systems (like Google does on Androids)
3 - we will not request administrator privileges by default

There are DRM mechanisms requiring to connect back via Internet every x-time. (DRM = Digital Rights Management - others say Restriction instead of Rights)
And if you are in some area and do not connect during six weeks - and your charts disappear? Not acceptable we think. Or you don't connect your boat PC to Internet because it is a Windows XP...

We are working on a "USB-Dongle" solution for people who experiment or want a "portable" chart set.
Take it as an insurance which will have its additional cost as sending stuff all over the world is not for free. And the dongle neither.

And I agree, DRM and free software is no fun...
