Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

We purchased Aquamaps charts for US and the Bahamas, downloaded all the US and Bahamas "tiles" to the Ipad a few weeks ago. Been using it to navigate from NC to Florida. Great app. Love the Active Captain info and the ability to upload a route to our other devices.

But,looking at the app today, the Bahamas charts are no longer downloaded! I had to click on the tiles and download them again using 3GB of data. Has anyone had to do this? We're heading to the Bahamas tomorrow and will not have unlimited data to do this 3GB download again.

Just wondering why they would disappear when Aquamaps promises that they'll be on your device once you download them. Wonder if I have a setting wrong?

(I sent an email to their support group but have no idea if they'll answer).

They will answer, I sent them an email a few months ago and they did.
I think, maybe if you purchased them for a year and it’s been a year that you may have to re-download them.
However they also have Explorer charts now, is that what you downloaded?

I just purchased the charts a few weeks ago. Thanks for the info that they'll answer. And yes, I purchased the Explorer charts and they are terrific!

Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I emailed them asking how to make it so that the chart was heading up as opposed to North up.
Then didn’t use the app for months, do you know how to make it heading up? It can be done, but I don’t remember how.

When you have a route active, press the little arrow at the top left side of the screen a time or two until the orientation is heading up. There may be a way to set it to heading up all the time. I'll reply again if I find it.

Thanks, cause I’ve not used a route, but know it can be done.
They answered pretty quickly when I emailed them some months ago and we had a dialog, I am I’m sure just one of the people who told them we wanted Bahamas Explorer charts.

I have several apps and I bounce back and forth, now that they are Explorer chart based, I need to start using this one, My Garmin app has always been my go to, but of course it’s not supported any longer

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

My Bahamas Charts keep vanishing as well.

Let us know the answer when you find out.

I would think it may help if you too sent them an Email, if they hear from several people, they may realize there is a problem and act faster?
I can’t afford multiple downloads myself, I don’t have the data.
I exceeded my data limit last month downloading the Explorer charts

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I haven't lost any charts, and don't have any Bahamas charts.

However, I wanted to point out a setting that may be an influencing factor:

At the very bottom of settings is an option to "Allow iOS to delete maps in case of low available space."

You may want to check that setting and make sure it is off. [I don't recall what the default setting is...]

In case this is helpful.

Cheers! Bill

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

Thanks Bill -check that setting - is exactly the response I got from tech support today. I checked it - and it is turned off on both devices. I responded to them with that info asking for further insight. I'll report back if anything new develops.

We did sail 21 hours from Miami to the Berries yesterday using the IPad the entire time (as backup to our B&G chartplotter) and it did fine, the Bahamas charts are still resident.

I just want to make sure they stay that way for the next 5 months!

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I did get a second response from the AquaMaps tech support. They said that the would inspect their code to see if there was a problem. Very responsive folks!

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I loaded Aquamap after hearing about it at a seminar at Annapolis show, used it all the way to Florida, very happy with it. When they announced the explorer Bahamas version I purchased and downloaded it,about 5 days later it disappeared, had to reload it ! Been fine for last two weeks but northern little Bahamas bank is fuzzy.

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

I thought I'd post a follow-up. We've been cruising the Bahamas since mid-December now and I'm happy to report that the AquaMap app has been great. I have not had to re-load any charts.

Really like the app and the Explorer info has been great.

Re: Anyone have to re-download Aquamaps charts?

Mine have been disappearing over the last few days as well. The 'delete maps' button is switched off.

Very unsafe. Pull out the ipad to check some charts and they are gone! You may not be in a place where you can download them on the spot. They need to fix this!
