The Amir Regatta from Turkey to Israel

Most people neglect the eastern side of the Med, but the yearly regatta from Turkey, Istanbul and passing through northern Cyprus, Syria, and Lebanon before heading to Israel is an experience.

I just found out on the local news:

Although run privately it needs support from the Turkish State and Regional Governments so questions must exist over this support being there for 2011 after the recent change in Turkish / Israeli relationships,

We took part in 2006 and in the 80 boat fleet we had 15 US yachts taking part. I found it great safe fun and pleasant way to sail this troubled coastline and explore inland in company - and super value at $250 per person for the 8 week event.

I read that a number of boats chose to leave the Rally at Syria and so were not with the fleet arriving in Israel. Let us hope they can rejoin EMYR when it reaches Egypt and that it does continue into it's 21st year.
