Danny green chameleon nesting dinghy
I have been building one of these over the last month or so. Lots of fun and a great learning experience for a novice woodworker & fibreglasser. I am making the sailing version.
I have a 28ft trailer sailer and really want to own a bigger boat one day. In order to learn skills that would be handy for modifications or repairs etc I decided to build the stitch and glue dinghy. It's like an intensive course in the skills I lack.
Here are some pics from the raw plywood until today. Still more to do but I can almost see the end.
One thing I decided to do different to the plans is make the mast using the birds mouth process. Lighter and stronger

Awesome. It's been a real pleasure to build his boat and the instructions are pretty good too. I will post some more pics as things progress.

You'll love it! I also built one and have now used it as a full time tender for the past 3 years. Rows well, motors well with a 2 1/2 HP outboard and sails like a witch.
I put the corner gussets under the gunwales, for extra strength when hoisting aboard. Next time, I'll cant the top of the bulkhead forward, shorten up the top deck, about 4 inches, to allow for more passenger room. Otherwise, it's been perfect and the source of much admiration around the anchorages.

Very nice! Is there a reason the bottom strakes don't run parallel to the keel?

They are straight. I measured equal distances from the centerline. They look odd in the photo for some reason.

Had the plans at one point, nice dinghies.
Seem to about one per country I visit. Just saw am really beat up one out in Green Cove Springs anew weeks ago.
