Texas marinas close to Fort Hood

Hello

I will be a Fort Hood for a while and am I am looking for a marina that has a fun cruising community. I assume Houston is the best place to start looking? I welcome suggestions on some marinas to visit. There are lakes around Fort Hood, but i cannot see if they have marinas.

I won't be a liveaboard like i was at san diego.

Suggestions are welcome.

Thank you

Michael

Fort Hood to Houston is a 3.5 hour drive minimum. If you are up for the drive, there are several suggestions here http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...rea-34650.html

Lake Travis in Austin is 2 hours away but they have been severely impacted by the droughts we have had.

A lot is going to depend on what size boat you have or if you are looking to charter.

I met a guy in Houston who was still active Army stationed at Ft. Hood. He sail he was a liveaboard in Kemah although I doubt he made the commute daily. Maybe liveaboard during the weekends, small apartment at Hood? I just got to Campbell and the closest marinas are an hour away and full. All the best to you.

Lake Buchanan

This lake is only 30 minutes away from Fort Hood, don't know anything about it but it is in the hill country, which is some of the most beautiful countryside in Texas! You need to scroll down to find lake Buchanan, plus that website is for central Texas sailors, they have a forum, they may be able to give you some insight also.

Praying for a speedy ' get your butt outta Afghanistan and back onto your beautiful boat where you belong' for you and, a general get out of dodge for all the troops .

Thank you thank you, for all you have done for this country.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rain Dog

Yeah, unless you are up to a bit of a drive, Lake Buchanan is a great choice - assuming they get some water this year!

We are in Port Aransas/Corpus Christi. Probably 4 hours to CC.
