I would like to start a thread where all HC 8.7 owners can share experiences etc. with their boats. These boats were built be a number of different company's starting with Columbia Yachts until around 1980 when they went bust. Howard Hughes from Hughes Boat works bought the tooling from the receiver and updated the interiors and rig in 1980. Due to a recession, he went into receivership in 1982 when Ralph and Audrey Sprung bought the company and resumed building the same line of boats using the same workers. They did this until 1984 when they went bust. Howard bought the company back with 3 other investors, my father being one. Sadly a fire consumed the factory in the early 90's marking the end.

There are many great samples of 8.7's out there marking the quality of build and the ability to stand the test of time.

Mine is # 528, built during the Aura years but has been updated and modified in honor of Howard.
