Future Brown Water Cruiser: 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 Refit
Hi.
We started a complete refit of a 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 (aluminum hulled motor yacht) way back in late 2007. There were some unfortunate fits and starts along the way, but we're recently making great strides toward getting her done. Hopefully, she'll float later this year and we'll wrap up the refit on the water over the next two years. In 2015, we intend to head out for some cruises up and down the east coast of the US. After that...who knows? ;-)
I started a blog on this back in January. Check it out if you like: 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 Refit: From Boatyard Ghost Ship to Concept to Execution

Always loved the Chris Crafts of that era. Some of the most beautiful power boats ever made.
Glad to see people fixing the old girls' up.

No bidet on the Roamer yet, but we had one on the Connie 52 that I sold last year. That was actually a selling point. I've also got one on the Commander 42 we're on now.
It's essential hardware. Drops paper use to almost nothing...never had a plugged poo line. Plus...heated seat.
Anything less is camping.

Welcome to CF Q. I hope your planning on operating HF SSB because your boat offers the perfect counterpoise for the antenna. Big signals.

zeehag, you can read about the Commander 42 we're on now, including the bidet, at https://sites.google.com/site/1968ch...mmander42/home.
Thanks, Pete7 and deckofficer. There are several blue water sailors at my yacht club that are very involved in SSB. They string antenna wires around the patio and up into the trees during training days they conduct a couple of times every season. I could see the benefit for blue water cruising, but I think it's safe to say that something will have gone very, very wrong if we find ourselves needing SSB because we're hundreds of miles from land in this Chris Craft.
Maybe once the refit is complete I might get bored and get into SSB. For now, even fresh water plumbing is waaaaay down my honey-do list.

Why does the term, "Brown water cruiser" sound so simply unappealing?

Re: Future Brown Water Cruiser: 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 Refit
zeehag, our Commander is a 42, the stretched, two-cabin motoryacht version of the 38.
Liam Wald, I agree with you completely. lol What term would be as accurate, though, but without the unfortunate mental image of Brown Water Cruiser?
neptunesjester, mine is also a 1969 RAQ...#5, to be precise. It would be terrific if you could shoot me some pix of your boat. I've got another buddy up in the Great Lakes with an RAQ-46. His is 871-powered. It's been very helpful for both of us to compare notes. Tell me more about yours and about this Roamer Boat owner group.
Oh, and I've posted a new blog article -- 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 Refit: Fillets!
