Caribbean vacation

My girlfriend and I would like to spend several weeks, maybe a month, in a tropical place (Caribbean area) where we also have access to sailing, either formal instruction or connecting with someone who would like to have extra crew for a day-sail or two. Any recommendations other than just finding where the charter bases are?

I’d stay away from the usual tourist charter venues like BVI or St Martin if you want the genuine experience with locals. The charter locations especially in winter are full of the typical tourist on vacation crowd you can have anywhere closer to home.

Look into Antigua, the Grenadines, Barbados or St Kitts for some unique adventure on better boats.

A lot has to do with your budget, interest in activities and ability/interest in speaking something other than English. There’s a big difference between several of the islands.
