Does anyone know a good surveyor/broker in Guatemala ?

Hi!
So here's a tricky one:
Does anyone know of a trustworthy and reliable broker and surveyor in Guatemala?

Plus: how can you be sure who to trust when buying a boat in a small place where everyone seems to know everyone?

Feels impossible to know for sure your best interests are indeed a priority...

Any piece of advice and knowledge is appropriated!

Cheers!

Thats one of the delimas of buying a boat anywhere...the brokers and surveyors are all in the same small industry and know each other. They also will continue to work with each other after you are gone. So there is some degree of incentive not to rock the boat. IMHO bringing in your own surveyor, or at least a knowlegeable friend, is a good idea.

That said, two surveyors on the Rio are Captain John and Casey Brooks. I believe both have ads on the Rio Dulce Chisme:

www.riodulcechisme.com

Jean Claude has been a "broker" (no one is actually a legally registered broker on the Rio) on the Rio for many years and is a good guy.

See http://guatemalariodulce.com

Some marinas also broker boats, ask around.

SeaKist, Chris Stanley, is the other broker in the Rio Dulce see SeaKist Yacht Sales (Rio Dulce, Livingston, Izabal, Guatemala)

And depending on how much you are paying for the vessel, if it is a lot of money, I agree with Belizesailor, bring your own surveyor in.

I believe you have nailed it. Using a surveyor in any given area could be a one hand washes the other situation.
