450: Navigation Table finish.

On our L450 2013 the Nav Table Instrument Panel and the two drop down doors to the left are coated in a Matt Black soft to the touch paint finish.

It looked very smart when new but after a couple of years it appears to be melting before our eyes, it is going soft and sticky, dust, hair etc is sticking to it and generally it looks crap. Any one else had issues or come up with a good fix / replacement ?

That's not good, ours is 6 years old and still looks pretty good. Only thing I can think of is either sunlight exposure or what you may have cleaned it with - a surface spray that does not agree with the paint.

A sister ship next to us built in 2011 is fine as well.

Never used any product to try to clean other than soapy water. To the right of the photo a 30 inch computer screen is mounted and it has gone funny behind that, No sunlight.

It's whole surface has gone soft and tacky and can be moved around with a finger nail. Will just have to get replacements made and painted.

Lucky these boats are cheap or one might get a tad upset otherwise.

On a totally unrelated point finally got around to replacing the useless, noisy, vibrating, fans fitted as original with Sirocco II models, now we can have the fans on high without having to resort to hearing protection.

you could try a pvc cleaner similar to the one in the link as i think lagoon used light weight plastic composite panels cut with a CNC cutter.

acetone,MEK,some cleaners like windolene and sunlight can cause this surface damage.

if you do decide to replace an exact replica can be made using a router with a guide,or a 1/4" router trim bit and bearing cutter

When you open the panel, is the reverse side tacky as well? Other causes could be insect spray (Rid in particular), or maybe a really hot day with cabin closed up.
Now is your opportunity to turn it into a work of art, just a piece of ply, could sand and paint it glossy white, or clear epoxy coated timber, or just plain old matt black. It does seem to be a strange sort of coating.

Never noticed before but if not at least as bad as front possibly worse Cat hair and dust stuck to the inside as well.

Just removed latch and they are definitely made from some sort of light weight, white plastic that has been coated in the black finish.

The picture looks terrible this just moved up the priority list for fixing.

Our panel is made of 15 mm plywood and has two twist locks, one in each top corner - so maybe the later models used plastic which is not compatible with the coating. Ours is is a very tight fit and when humidity rises it swells and gets pretty stuck.
