Re: water and Fuel

We are on a Hunter Passage 42, we carry 70 Gallons of Fuel and 190 Gallons of fresh water. We use about 30 gallons of water a week, and we use very little diesel. We use the 8KW generator an hour or so on the days when it's too cloudy to make any Ah's with Solar, and we motor as little as possible and sail as much as possible. Our only issue with fuel has been keeping it polished. Hope this helps. Good luck on your refit.

Re: water and Fuel

Tankage is 200 gallons water, 60 gallons diesel. The water last us three months if we’re using seawater to do bulk cleaning.

Re: water and Fuel

2 on board
50 gal of fuel
150 gal of water

fuel lasts as long as it lasts depending what we have been doing
water last 3-4 weeks of full time living on board including showers

Re: water and Fuel

2 on board
1300 gallons/5000 litres of water
1800 gallons/7000 litres of diesel.

With rain collection and occasional 200 litre bladder fill from dinghy we get a year or more from water
With current usage fuel would last 2 years

Re: water and Fuel

Two on board - part-timers.
We have 35 gallons of diesel when full and burn 0.3 GPH when motoring. We also run the genset for an hour a day off the same tank.
We only have 70 gallons of water and typically use 10 GPD in the Bahamas, which seems a bit high compared with what others have reported. We have an additional 20 gals in containers for contingency.

I realized I forgot to say we are two adults, full time for about six months out of the year. So far we’ve mostly cruised cooler climes (currently Newfoundland). We average 2 gallons of fresh water per day. This covers cooking, drinking and body washing, but generally not showering. Our shower is mostly fed by rain water.

We carry 130 gallons of diesel fuel and 150 gallons of water. With 2 adults on board the water lasts 3-4 weeks. Fuel? Well, we top up the tanks every two years whether we need it or not.

Re: water and Fuel

The two of us live full time on our 43 ft ketch— typically between 55 and 62°N. Our tankage is 220 gallons each potable water and diesel fuel. [two tanks for each]

We have a watermaker and a clothes washing machine. I mention this because it skews our typical water consumption figures. [We usually empty one 110 gallon water tank every 5-7 days. Therefore, that is how often we run the watermaker.]

We can make a 110 gallon water tank stretch out for a month if we limit showers and laundry... [e.g., if the watermaker wasn't working...]

I wish we had a diesel fuel maker... On average, 60- 70% of our fuel consumption— on an annual basis— is for heat. We fill up 2-3 times annually— maybe another fill if it is a cold winter... [e.g., extended below zero F temps]

If motor cruising only [i.e., not motor sailing] we can go 1000 - 1200 miles at 1600-1800 RPM averaging 6-8 knots.

In hopes this is helpful.

Have fun with your refit!

Cheers! Bill

Re: water and Fuel

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking 120 gal fuel and 150 gal water but that was sounding high and heavy in my head. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't keep the tank under the v berth which would give me about 220 gals of water.
I'm also wondering if setting up a 10 gal day tank for fuel might be a good idea With filters between the main and day tank that way I could prefilter what was needed for the day. Would this be worth the effort?
