Caribbean Soul

I'm making plans to sail from Punta Gorda to Pensacola. Looking at the charts I read some troubling notes. I had planned to draw a straight line and then follow it. Is there anyone there that's made that passage that could offer help?

made that passage several times, both ways, only from Tampa Bay and Ft Myers. Always sailed rum line, no problems.

You mean you followed a "drunkard's walk" path?

Or was that the rhumb line?

Re: Caribbean Soul

I've done the reverse, Pensacola to St Petersburg on a straight line, 300 nm. No issues, no oil platforms, deep water once offshore. The entry at Pensacola is a piece of cake. Once inside though, if you turn west in the ICW, that first mile or two is often busy with barges, and gets relatively narrow(er) for a stretch.
