Re: Sailing the Caribbean

Have you done any research on this forum about sailing the Caribbean? A lot of your questions will be answered if you did a bit of research. Hard work I know but --

The Caribbean is not a single country. Do depending on how you want to count it, there are about 25 different countries bordering the Caribbean. Since each country is sovereign and makes its own laws then each country will have different regulations on how long you can stay.

Permission is from the customs and immigration officers in each country. None that I can think of require visas in advance of arrival so you do the paperwork when you arrive.

Re: Sailing the Caribbean

Take a look at the Caribbean section of Noonsite.com "Countries" page. Here's a link...

Countries —

As skipmac said, it varies by country. I've sailed to all but three of the eastern Caribbean countries. You will have to clear in through Customs and Immigration at each country. They will ask you how long you want to visit, and most will grant you a 30 day Visitors' Visa, if you ask for it. Fees will vary. The cruising guides will have information on where to go to clear in, office hours, etc.

I'm hoping to sail that area or similar with my wife in the next year or so. Researching the specific areas has helped me get my head around the regs. I also watch cruising videos which gives me a little piece of mind seeing other people do it and it's really not a huge deal.

You may get a few snippy replies from time to time on this forum, but you'll also get some good advice. I've seen several people post a white flag when they ask questions.

Good luck.

Weirdly, some people on this forum think the Caribbean means Mexico and Cetral America so can you specify where you mean, please?

Re: Sailing the Caribbean

You can stay as long as your money lasts. Just sail from one country to another as you visas expire. Basically endlessly.
