Mast Stepping. Can anyone recommend a yard/facility/marine in Victoria Australia
Hi
We intend to bring our catamaran to Victoria, Australia for stepping of our Qld made mast in order to save on Bass Strait freight costs. Wanted to ask if anyone could recommend a yard/facility/marina? Only services required is carnage and jetty access.
Any info appreciated.
Cheers
Mick

Geez I hope you don't want carnage!
Yaringa boat harbour in western port bay is a lovely friendly yard. A bit of a squeeze to get in there but worth the effort.

I think docklands in the heart of Melbourne has decent rates and shoreside truck access to the quay for a crane. You would have to discuss logistics with them.

+ 1 for Yaringa, Dudley St yard in Docklands as well, its actually on Enterprize way.
Suggest avoid Queenscliff.

Someone else would confirm this, but when I stopped in Hastings last year I think I saw a jetty with a mast lift. I'd check with the Marina there to see if the facilities are there. You can avoid going into Port Philip Bay then.

The place monty means I think is appleton dock, security could be a issue as its in the Port limits (Misc control but should be Ok for workhours). Sandringham is another possibility, but if cartage is not a issue the I would suggest Hastings or Yaringa, nothing wrong with Queenscliff I believe they have a new management by a couple of years.

Thanks for the feedback all. Great to get some local knowledge.
Hi Rustic Charm
We are in St. Helens on the NE of Tas. Just got back from a power cat trip to Hobart to catch up with the engine agent for our sea trails warranty etc.
Will check out the Western Port yards. Hastings had been suggested by a friend down here as well.
Cheers
Mick

Congratulations on getting your vessel into the water.
I have been watching your build on the Spitited website.
What is your speed under power.
Cheers
Just found your own website. Interior looks great. Congratulations again.

Thanks Weyalan, I was wondering if Williamstown was going to get a prop.
Down under. Appreciate your kind words. I have recently posted a brief report on motor performance during our Hobart trip last weekend. It's on our FB page.
http://www.facebook.com/sailsurfroam
Short story is 10.8 knots flat out. Cruise both motors at 8.5 and 1 motor at 6.5 knots.
Regards
Mick

To wrap up my question we ended up going to Saveges Wharf in Williamstown. Used a local mobile crane company to lift the mast. Cheers Weyalan for the tip.
Modern neat clean yard and good suppport from Josh and the crew there. Worked well for us.
Regards
Mick

Mick, thanks for the fill! So many posters ask questions and then disappear, leaving us wondering what happened.
This year we are going north on the west coast... otherwise we'd try to stop and have a look at your new boat... looks very nice in the pix.
Cheers,
Jim
